美国康宁公司已经研制成一种新型专用光纤,可供各种严酷环境下的军事和传感器应用。该光纤的商标为Payout~(TM),它的模场直径小于标准电话通信光纤的模场直径。这项光学改进的结果使这种光纤在诸如松放光纤等弯曲密集的应用中能显示出极低的损耗,故可用于纤维光学制导的导弹和可快速部署应用的战术光缆中。这种特殊光纤还可在各种传感器中应用,特别是在要把光纤缠绕成线圈的场合中应用,例如应用于纤维光学干涉传感器,声传感器和压力传感器等。
Corning Incorporated has developed a new type of dedicated optical fiber for military and sensor applications in a variety of harsh environments. The fiber is marketed under the trademark Payout (TM) and has a mode field diameter that is less than the mode field diameter of a standard telephony fiber. The result of this optical improvement enables the fiber to exhibit very low loss in bending-intensive applications such as loose optical fiber and can therefore be used in fiberoptic guided missiles and tactical fiber optic cables for rapid deployment of applications. This special fiber can also be used in a variety of sensors, especially in the optical fiber to be wound into a coil applications, such as fiber optic interference sensors, acoustic sensors and pressure sensors.
