自从婚姻法颁布以来,东北各地都曾进行了贯彻婚姻法的工作,人民群众中新的婚姻和正常的离婚均受到了支持,在广大干部和部分工农群众中,已实行了真正的自由婚姻,大多数群众的婚姻亦已由过去的包办买卖方式变为半自主婚姻了。但旧的包办买卖婚姻仍然为数不少,妇女受虐待的事情还常发生。特别是广大群众中的各种封建保守思想,和对婚姻法的各种错误认识仍然普遍存在,群众中有:「认为不花钱的媳妇不巩固」「宁拆十座庙不拆一座婚」「自由恋爱是自由乱爱」的错误观点,干部中也还存在着违反婚姻法支持旧式婚姻、压制妇女的恶劣行为,有的对贯彻婚姻法抱着多一事不如少一事的
