Based on Bourdieu’s Capital Theory and Norton’s Learner’s Second Language Investment Theory, this study proposes the concept of parental investment in English learning. By selecting 1542 middle school sophomores and their parents from 15 middle schools in Shenyang, Beijing, Nanjing and Yancheng as the research objects, this paper discusses the class differences of parents’ investment in English learning by means of questionnaires and interviews. The findings show that there is a significant difference between high and low levels in the concept and behavior of parental investment, with senior parents scoring generally higher than lower-level parents. This study suggests that English classroom teaching should maximize the role of education compensation and pay attention to lower-level students. Parents should pay attention to the rational allocation of investment and adjust their emotional investment.
