It was the first snow of winter—an exciting day for every child but not for most teachers. Up until now, I had been old enough to dress myself, but today I would need some help. Miss Finlayson, my kindergarten teacher, had been through first snow days many times, but I think she may still remember this one.
I tried to get into my wool snow trousers, and I made it. But I struggled with my jacket because it didn’t fit well. It was a hand-me-down from my brother, and it made me wonder why I had to wear his ugly clothes. At least my hat and scarf were mine, and they were quite pretty. Finally it was time to have Miss Finlayson help me with my boots (靴子).
In her calm, motherly voice she said, “By the end of winter, you’ll be able to put on your own boots.” I didn’t realize at the time that this was more a statement of hope than of confidence.
I handed her my boots. Like most children, I expected grown-ups to do all the work. After much pushing, she got the first one into place and then, with a sigh, worked the second one on too. I announced, “They’re on the wrong feet.”
She struggled to get the boots off and went through the joyless work of putting them on again.
“They’re my brother’s boots, you know,” I said, “ I hate them!”
Somehow, for long years of practice, she managed to act though I wasn’t an annoying(烦人的) little girl. She pushed and pushed, less gently this time. With a greater sigh, seeing the end of her struggle with me, she asked, “Now, where are your mittens (连指手套)?” I looked into her eyes and said, “I didn’t want to lose them, so I hid them in the toes of my boots”

A young man was getting ready to graduate from the college. He loved a beautiful sports car for many months, and knew his father could well afford it for him. He told his father that was all he wanted.
As the graduation day was coming near, the young man had got nothing from his father. On the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. He told his son how proud he was to have such a good son, and told him how much he loved him. Then he gave his son a beautiful gift box. The young man opened the box and found a lovely book, a Bible, with the young man’s name on it. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money you gave me a Bible?” He then ran out of the house, leaving the Bible. Many years later, the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful house

阅读下列短文,从每题所给四个选项中,选出一个最佳答案。

He had a beautiful house
and a wonderful family. Realizing his father was old, he thought he should go to see him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Unfortunately, he was told that his father had died.
