Objective To compare the effects of perindopril and amlodipine on arterial elasticity in patients with essential hypertension. Methods Seventy-eight patients with mild-to-moderate essential hypertension were randomly divided into perindopril group and amlodipine group. Blood pressure <140/90 mm Hg was used as the standard of antihypertensive treatment. Before treatment, Week of cervical femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV). Results Compared with those before treatment, the levels of cfPWV in perindopril group and amlodipine group were significantly decreased at 4 and 12 weeks ([12.9 ± 2.3] m / s vs (11.1 ± 2.1) m / s and (9.6 ± 1.7) m / s and (13.3 ± 2.6) m / s vs. (11.4 ± 2.2) m / s and (9.4 ± 1.6) m / s], respectively. Conclusions Perindopril and amlodipine can be used to decrease the arterial elasticity in patients with essential hypertension.
