NEC has developed a three-layer nanofiller that dramatically increases the toughness of polylactic acid resins. The filler has the characteristic that the tensile property before breaking is increased by twice or more while maintaining the strength of the polylactic acid resin. NEC plans to advance the use of this new technology by reducing the thickness of the electronics housing made of bioplastic and increasing its drop resistance.
