The flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2000 generally continued the characteristics of the past. The developed countries still dominated the international direct investment while the developing countries were relatively weakened. However, new characteristics emerged as well: the deepening polarization in developing countries was mainly due to the differences between the potential for economic growth and the investment climate in various countries.
