棉花新品种培育技术从传统走向分子阶段中,863计划功不可没。在该计划的“优质高产棉花分子品种创制”和“棉花功能基因组学研究与应用”等项目的支持下,研究人员建立的棉花遗传转化平台,为棉花外源基因功能验证提供了技术支撑;完成的棉花基因组测序,为棉花生物学研究提供了重要的基础数据库。并将两者结合,为我国棉花重要功能基因挖掘与利用、分子育种,乃至全基因组设计育种提供前所未有的机遇,标志着我国棉花生物学研究进入了快速发展阶段。
