民国初年,为了解决北京交通落后的状况,北洋政府于1921年正式成立了北京第一家电车公司,经营北京的有轨电车事业,并兼营公共汽车。在公司工作的电车工人分在厂内的和在车上工作的两种。人们一般看到的是在电车上工作的工人即司机生和售票生。电车工人的工作非常辛苦。他们不但工作时间长、劳动强度大,而且还经常遭受乘车军警的打骂、殴辱。电车工人因军警殴 In the early Republic of China, Beiyang government formally established Beijing’s first tram company in 1921 in order to solve the backward traffic conditions in Beijing.
