A research institute in the United States is conducting hydrostatic extrusion of Ti-6A1-4V titanium alloy and AISI4340 steel sections. The first part of a recent study was to design and test a T-shaped profile for hydrostatic cross-sectional dimensions of 25.4 x 19 x 6.4 mm and longer than 1.52 m. The key distinguishing feature of this research from other research efforts is the extrusion of difficult-to-machine, large-size blanks and more complex profiles.
