The “International Symposium on Floods and Drought” hosted by the IHP Chinese National Committee, the IHP Regional Steering Committee for Asia and the Pacific and the UNESCO Jakarta Office was held in Nanjing on 18-21 December 1999. The 145 experts and scholars from flood defenses and drought research institutes in China and in South Asia and the Pacific participating in the seminar have been reducing floods in recent years.
