横贯安徽省北部的省道502线蚌(埠)阜(阳)公路是我国第一条用特殊材料——“砂礓”铺筑而成的公路。蚌阜路原为古道。1928年建成简易公路,少数路段铺有3米宽的砖渣。抗日战争时期,为阻止日寇推进,国民党当局曾将该路扒断,日本投降后才得以修通,但时断时通。1950年3月新成立的阜阳、涡阳、蒙城三县人民政府为配合生产救灾,以工代赈发动沿线群众投劳对阜阳至曹店段108公里路面进行全面整修。1952年阜阳地区交通局长张凯之和阜阳专区工程技术人员在
