自1996年起,在青海可可西里无人区,活跃着一支武装反偷猎队,同盗猎藏羚羊的武装犯罪分子浴血奋战。这支由青海省治多县西部工作委员会领导的国内首支武装反偷猎队伍,自豪地称自己为“西部野牦牛队”。西部工委第一任书记杰桑·索南达杰英勇战死雪原;青海省治多县委副书记、西部工委书记、西部野牦牛队队长扎巴多杰1999年11月8日晚在青海玉树家中遭枪击身亡。这一天正好是我国《野生动物保护法》颁布十周年的纪念日!四天后,扎巴多杰的遗体被天葬。
