18世纪中叶,欧洲的法、德、意、英诸国先后编辑出版了百科全书,综合概述社会科学和自然科学的各门知识,既介绍历史知识,也反映当时最新的科学发现和进晨。这对于普及科学知识,开展学术研究,提高群众的文化素养起到了不可估量的作用。所以,百科全书历来有“没有围墙的大学”之美称。
In the middle of the eighteenth century, the Encyclopedia of France, Germany, Italy and Britain in Europe successively edited and published encyclopedias, comprehensively summarized the various knowledge of social sciences and natural sciences, introduced historical knowledge as well as the latest scientific discoveries and advances at that time. This has played an immeasurable role in popularizing scientific knowledge, carrying out academic research and raising the masses’ cultural accomplishments. Therefore, the encyclopedia has always been “no walled university” reputation.
