At the 1996 NBA Draft, Coyre Bryant, a 17-year-old high school student, from New York City’s Murray Middle School in Philadelphia, was the 13th overall newcomer to the Charlotte Hornets to become the seventh-highest-school player in NBA history. One afternoon before that, as the deafening cheers of the students sounded, he slowly walked to the podium of the Coliseum. He, like those trendy American middle school students, wore finely detailed sports tops and fat trousers that needed to be cut again. With a pair of sunglasses on his forehead, he approached the microphone with his thick black lips, Think of a word carefully considered his words for a week: “I have decided not to go to college, I want to go to the NBA to develop their talents.”
