中国21世纪经济增长的最大潜力在中西部地区,而长江深入中西部腹地。建设长江沿江铁路大通道对于西部开发和中国经济腾飞具有十分重要的战略意义。从国际经验来看:美国西部大开发,就是从贯通东西部地区铁路抓起的。建成了完整的全国铁路网,使得美国经济得以平衡发展。为此我们建议中央能象1992年决策加快京九线建设那样,尽快贯通沿江铁路大通道,实现沿江人民近百年的梦想。建设沿江铁路大通道区别于其它东西大通道的地方在于:①这条通道重量级城市密集。上海、南京、武汉、重庆等数十个大中城市及周边农村腹地的经济社会联系密切。上海、武汉和重庆是东、中、西部三
The greatest potential for economic growth in China in the 21st century lies in the central and western regions, while the Yangtze River runs deep into the hinterland of the central and western regions.
