In Britain, Saturday night is always the prime time for watching TV with family. One of the most popular types of shows is the talent show, in part because of its broad audience age and program interactivity. Even early talent shows, such as The Knock of an Edge (1956-1978), require viewers to vote on their favorite performers, such as singers, dancers, comedians or musicians. Tens of thousands of viewers voted - except at the time voting was done by postcards instead of by phone, text message or the internet.
