特香型烤烟新品系是中国烟草总公司青州烟草研究所用体细胞杂交法，经多年选育而成。其最大的优点是香气质好，香气量足。１９９４～１９９６年在恩施市试种，经不同海拔高度种植表明，最适宜海拔高度６００～８００ｍ的缓坡地种植。经品种（系）比较试验，筛选出适宜恩施州种植的新品系—９２－８。该品系香气质好，香气量足，外观质量好，烟叶化学成分协调，施肥投入少，产量和产值比当地烤烟主栽品种Ｋ３２６略高，深受烟农欢迎。
