While studying the nature of oxygen, we can observe from the pictures in the textbook that when the sulfur is burnt in oxygen and the fine wire is burnt in oxygen, there is a small amount of water in the bottom of the gas cylinder. This aroused the curiosity of students: why the bottom of the gas gathering bottle should be filled with a small amount of water? In two experiments, what is the role of water? We can use other substances instead of water? With these questions, We came to the chemical laboratory, the actual observation and comparison of the sulfur burning and the fine iron wire burning, see the table below. Through the analysis and discussion of the role of water in the gas collection bottle, the students reached a preliminary conclusion.
