September 25, 2000 IBM and Huawei reached a cooperation agreement on the development of Huawei’s high-performance network communications system. IBM will provide the core chip for a new generation of devices developed by China’s largest communications equipment maker. Under the terms of the agreement, IBM will be one of Huawei’s key technology providers for the next generation of Internet Protocol (IP) routers and synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) optical transport systems.
