Using human carbonic anhydrase Ⅲ localization mutation to determine the role of threonine -199 and its phenylalanine -198 on CO_2 hydration. Threonine-199 is a zinc-bonded water hydrogen bond acceptor, whereas phenylalanine-198 constitutes the hydrophobic side of the carbonic anhydrase III active pocket.
