近代以来,为了有效地向回族传播基督教,西方传教士进入中国后对回族穆斯林投入了极大的关注。传教士对回族展开了一系列的调查和研究。本文以相关英文史料为主,就西方传教士对回族人口的调查与统计,以及他们对当时回族社会的“田野考察”等相关问题进行梳理。尽管传教士对回族社会的调查是出于传教的目的,但是他们的调查也留存了一批研究近代回族社会的珍贵文献资料。
In modern times, in order to effectively spread Christianity to Hui people, Western missionaries paid great attention to Hui Muslims after entering China. The missionaries carried out a series of investigations and studies on the Hui people. Based on the relevant historical materials in English, this paper reviews the survey and statistics of the Hui ethnic population by Western missionaries and their related issues such as Field Investigation of the Hui society at that time. Although the missionaries surveyed the Hui community for their missionary purposes, their investigation also preserved a number of valuable documents on modern Hui society.
