The mechanisms of impulse control disorders in PD are still unknown, and the prevalence of impulse control disorders depends on many factors, such as dopamine replacement therapy, mood disorders, gender and genetic factors. Several studies suggest that impulse control disorders in PD affect many regions of the mesocorticolimbic circuit. This article will give a comprehensive overview of the progress in the risk factors and imaging study of impulse control disorders in PD, which is helpful to the early diagnosis of this disease.
