In the absence of active zymogen present in platelets and plasma factor (fibrin-stabilizing factor) activated by thrombin, in the presence of Ca ~ (++) as a transaminase, catalyzing the formation of γ- Glutamyl-ε-lysyl bond, thus forming a stable fibrin, to complete the final stage of blood coagulation. Factor XIII in plasma consists of the dimer of the A subunit and the dimer of the B subunit (A_2B_2). B subunit does not transaminase activity, bear the role of molecular carrier. Platelet factor XIII consists of A 2 dimer only. Pattern of normal factor XIII in thin layer agarose gel electrophoresis: Factor XIIIA1-1, single band (type 1 homozygote dimer), factor
