Introduction The 6,000-km-long Yangtze River is the longest and most important river in China and the third largest river in the world after the Amazon and the Nile. It originated in the eastern plateau of Tibet, China is divided into two parts north and south, with a population of 16 million in Shanghai into the East China Sea. The Yangtze River basin accounts for one fifth of China’s land area and is China’s largest industrial and agricultural production area. One third of the country’s population live here
