Objective To understand the indoor air quality and the health effects of employees when the hotel is opened. Methods Four 4 ~ 4 star newly built and renovated guesthouses were surveyed for indoor air quality hygiene 1 ~ 4 weeks after the operation, meanwhile, the survey on health effects of practitioners was conducted. Results There was no significant difference between the indoor temperature, relative humidity, CO, CO2 and air bacteria and the outdoor control. There was a significant difference (P <0.05) between formaldehyde and respirable particulate matter and outdoor control, with room temperature up to (0.42 ± 0.23) mg / m3 and (0.13 ± 0.08) mg / m3 respectively. The positive rates of ocular, nasal and pharyngeal irritation symptoms, insomnia, dizziness and headache among practitioners were all higher than those employed in hotels for over 5 years. The positive rates of pharyngeal and ocular irritation were as high as 70.0% and 50.0% respectively. Conclusions Formaldehyde pollution in newly opened hotels mainly comes from decorative materials and lack of indoor ventilation.
