This article studies how to control the operating frequency and polarization of the microstrip antenna. This control is achieved by placing a number of shorting bars in place on the antenna boundary. By changing the number and position of shorting bars, the operating frequency can be tuned in the 1.5-1 range and the polarization can be changed from horizontal to vertical, right-handed or left-handed circularly polarized. These changes are made without the need to significantly change the antenna’s input impedance or the radiation pattern of the antenna without increasing the complexity of the external microwave feeder network. Using some microwave switching diodes as a short circuit, you can control the frequency and polarization. Antennas with two feeds and operating simultaneously with two mutually perpendicular polarizations have been made and can be switched between linear and circular polarizations. With a frequency agile microstrip unit, a thin frequency sweep antenna array has been made.
