《民主》杂志自创刊以来,得到了社会上各界知名人士及许多专家、学者的关心与支持。他们不仅积极为本刊惠稿,还热心为办好刊物出谋划策,参与本刊举办的一些活动,与《民主》杂志结下了真挚深厚的友谊,著名作家刘绍棠同志就是其中的一位。《民主》杂志创刊后,绍棠同志就为杂志撰稿,特别是从1993年11月号开始,本刊“百家之言”栏目特辟《如是我说》专栏,绍棠同志每期撰写一篇杂文,到1996年5月号,先后发表杂文31篇,很受读者欢迎。1996年4月,绍棠同志因重病入院治疗,他特函本刊,因身体原因,《如是我说》暂时辍笔。不料,今年3月12日,绍棠同志竟不幸去世,《民主》杂志及广大读者为失去这样一位作家和朋友深感悲痛。本刊特发表悼念他的文章,以寄哀思。

In April 1996, Comrade Schao Tong was admitted to hospital for serious illness. He wrote a special case of this journal because of physical reasons. “If I say” temporarily stop writing. Unexpectedly, on March 12 this year, Comrade Schaotang’s unfortunate death, and Democrats and the vast majority of readers were deeply saddened to lose such a writer and friend. The magazine published a tribute to his article to send grief.
