In the 1930s, under the influence of the global economic crisis, Shanghai’s publishing industry also faced fierce industry competition and crisis under the background of short-term prosperity. To reduce losses, publishing capitalists mostly tried to shift the crisis to the working class. After five campaigns, Shanghai publishing and printing workers, under the leadership and influence of the Chinese Communist Party, organized themselves to fight strikes with the employers of the Commercial Press, Zhonghua Book Company and Dadong Book Company. The complete failure of these struggles for various reasons further demonstrates the power of the working class.
