The careful friend who read Mrs. Burley’s wife, translated by Li Jianwu, must have noticed the “intimacy” attached to the book, which was written by Carolina Flannery, Carolina, Moving article, made in 1886. As can be seen from the memoirs, Caroline and her uncle are closely related. She is a favorite sister of Flaubert and has children in her second year of marriage. Caroline was fit for two occasions, Covereville was her first husband’s surname, and her second husband was Franklin Grove; but in her mind, the uncle was always her most loved relative. Willa Cather (1873-1947) is a modern American woman writer, she is very respectful of French culture, has repeatedly traveled to Europe. In 1930, she met the Aix-les-Bains, a health resort in France, with this closest relative of her beloved French writer Flaubert. To her, the old lady who had “pro-Azeri” was like a “living fossil” left by French literature at the height of the last century. In the face of this scene, she really can feel good and bad. The second year after the meeting, the old lady passed away. In memory of this friendship, Cather wrote down her own memory. Here both the Flaubert and his friends pose, but also full of Carolina’s feelings and Cather’s own feelings of accumulation and observation, can be regarded as a colorful, emotional and Qu song memories. E. K Brown, the author of Catherine’s biography, also thinks it is one of the most perfect essays by Cather. The article was first published in the February 1933 issue of the Atlantic Monthly, and was later included in Cather’s essay “Before It Was Read” (1936).
