“过了南门大桥——也就是万里桥,向右手一拐,是不很长的西巷子,近年来修了些高大街房,警察局制定的街牌便给改了个名字,叫染靛街。”这是李劫人先生在《大波》一书中对清末民初时染靛街的记述。这表明染靛街原先并不叫染靛街,而叫西巷子,即便新中国成立之后,许多“老成都”仍习惯称染靛街叫西巷子。此街原为染靛业集中之地,故后来更名染靛街。街长246米,宽7米,沿街多平房店铺,街南曾有解放南路旅馆、城南粮管站、饲料公司、成都制锁厂……
