吉农甜椒是利用原三道筋青椒群体中发生的自然变异，经多代系统分离选择而育成。１９８４年经吉林省农作物审定委员会审定准予在全省各地推广。该品种植株生长势强，果实大，肉厚，果面光滑深绿色有光泽，味甜脆，商品性好，抗病毒病较强等优点。丰产性也好，平均比当地主栽品种可增产３０％以上，一般栽培条件下亩产量可达１７５０～４０００公斤。该品种经几年来在省内大面积示范种植，表现良好，深受欢迎。
