ZIP8 (Slc39a8) belongs to ZIP (Slc39) family of divalent metal-ion importers [1].It transports Zn2+ and Fe2+ into the cytoplasm from extracellular environment or from intracellular organelles [2].ZIP8 was originally identified in primary monocytes by screening cDNA that was highly induced by BCG-CWS (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin cell wall skeleton) [3].Since its first discovery,ZIP8 has been found to be closely implicated in immune system such as T cell activation and innate immunity.
