1. Introduction Despite Israel’s constant economic woes, its exports of high-tech industrial products increased from 200 million U.S. dollars in 1976 to 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in 1983, a seven-fold increase. This increase is partly due to the establishment of high-tech industrial parks. Weitzman’s College first established such an industrial park, followed by all major Israeli universities. The history of the park construction and the enlightenment gained from it also guide the further development of such parks today. As the park solved the problem of “technology transfer” from the university to industry, which is the focus of the policy makers of the old home, the significance of establishing the park is even beyond the boundary of Israel.
