文化的发展离不开宗教的影响,艺术的发展亦是如此,陶瓷艺术的发展与宗教的关系也是十分密切的,自从东汉时期佛教传入我国后,文化、艺术包括思维都受到了佛教的影响。尤其是元代崇尚藏传佛教,元代代时期陶瓷造型以及在制作过程中所装饰的纹饰都受到那个时期非常盛行的藏传佛教的影响。不仅仅是沿用原有的佛教题材,而且出现了新的题材的陶瓷造型与装饰。这个时期的陶瓷中除了原本就有的佛像以及各种祭祀使用的日用陶瓷器之外还增加了原本不是陶瓷材质的各种佛教独有的器物,比如净水瓶、军持、僧帽壶等。这种情况的出现既丰富和补充了陶瓷造型和装饰,也满足了当时群众的宗教活动的需求。
