Wallace Stevens is one of the most important and famous poets of the 20th century in the United States. He is called “the poet in the poet” and a pure poet. He wrote two tea-themed poems at an early stage: Tea (1915) and Tea at the Red Palace (1921). Moreover, they are all included in the first edition of the “Reed Organ,” which was published by the poet in 1923, with “Tea in the Red Palace” located at the center of the collection of poems, while “Tea” is the poorest second. This elaborate arrangement reflects the poet’s feelings about tea and the importance of tea poetry. This article focuses on the poet’s creative background and two tea requests, explaining the theme of understanding and creating tea when people ask for reality and imagination.
