1.Carry out students-oriented classrooms.
During the class,we can tell the students to think of a day they go out for a visit with their parents or other people.They can prepare for it before class by means of writing the day they are out on the paper using as much English as they can.Such activity that we are organizing gives students chances to show their abilities.Someone may be good at acting,someone maybe good at speaking,and the other may be good at telling… We should create different situations to suit different students.Above all,the English learning class is lead by students themselves.
2.Make use of different kinds of auxiliary tools to trigger students’ interests.
2.1 Use vivid objects to trigger students’ interests.Language is a tool for thinking.To enable students think as soon as possible,we should eliminate the dependence on the mother tongue and to assist with photos,cartoon pictures,short videos,gestures,movements,facial expression and many so on.There are many colorful pictures in primary English text books,they can arouse students’ interest.For example,in Oxford Primary English 5B,there is a text called “Play a game”.We can give students some groups of numbers and ask them to choose one group to practice.When students play the game,they will not only learn the knowledge,but also will have a deep education.So,we must make full use of the vivid objects.
2.2 Listening and telling short stories.It will be uneasy for primary school students to accept the abstract matter.Therefore,in the classroom teaching,we should pay attention to their creation of scenes.Make use of pictures and listen to recordings or other methods,allowing students to listen to some of the language.Listening and telling short stories are good method to improve students’ study efficiency.On one hand,the story is very interesting that students can pay attention to it.On the other hand,from this story,students can get some sign with feeling and think about it,then add their interest in learning English.Following are some reasons that account for the reasons that listening and telling stories are useful:
(1)Learner love stories and feel at ease with them.
(2)Story language is often repetitive and with the help of pictures learners can easily understand the meaning.
(3)Stories can inspire imagination.
2.3 Holding competitions during class.In order to let students find the value of classes and help them to set up their learning confidence.Teacher needs to be patient and tolerant,and try to create opportunities for children to develop their language through competitions.We can design different kinds of competitions,Such as competition in groups,competition with partners,competitions with deskmates.These useful competitions can help students set up self confidence and self belief during the English learning. 3.Teach English through conversations.
It is an effective teaching method,which can arouse students’ motion and interest through practicing oral English.For example:
Teacher: How are you today?
Student: I’m fine,thank you.And you ?
Teacher: Oh,I’m fine too.What did you do on National day?
Student: Our family traveled to Beijing.It’s very,very…
Teacher: Is it very exciting and pleasant?
Student: Yes,yes,it’s very exciting and pleasant.
From the conversation,the students can gradually feel the relationship between “enjoy”,“the National Day”,“the travel”,“exciting” and “pleasant”.Since students really have experienced the travel,with teacher’s prompting,students would remember the verb “enjoy” and the adjective “exciting” and “pleasant” well.
4.The application of games to English teaching.
Albert Einstein once said: “Imagination is more important than knowledge,because knowledge is limited,whereas imagination nearly summarizes everything in the world.It’s the source of knowledge’s evolution.” Therefore,teachers should design some creative and challenging games in the class.For example,when teaching sentence “Is this ...?” I present character“0”and ask students to guess what does this character means.Some students guess: Is this an apple / an eraser / a nose ...? Other students even guess : Is this a clock / eggs.Repeatedly guess the character without any restrictions and constraints will give full play to their imaginations and help them master the new sentence patterns.
Conclusion
As teachers,we should always try our best to think of the teaching methods during process of teaching.This could not only meet the new rules of the curriculum standard,but also meet the requirement of the modern society.On the other hand,Interest is one of the important ways to help teachers creating a happy and bright teaching environment.
