菊花:摘心能促发新枝,使多开花,并能控制植株高度和延长花期。例如,通过最后一次摘心,小菊70d后能开花,大菊80d后能开花。一般大菊摘心3次,小菊摘心5次。大菊移植半个月(6月中旬末)植株高约20cm时,可进行第1次摘心,即留基部3～4片叶(能萌发3～4个芽),将主茎先端全部摘去;经过25d左右,叶腋芽又发侧枝,此时将侧枝下留2片叶,其余全部摘去;再过25d(一般是“立秋”前4d或最迟到“立秋”后3d)停头,方法同上。小菊摘心每次相隔18d左右,到8月下旬停头。
