大邑县斜源乡大鹏寺废庙前有一棵沿称“鲸柏”的罗汉松(Podocarpus macrophllus(Thunb.)D.Don),树身粗大,状貌不凡,在国内同树种中百不一二.这棵罗汉松高约18米,胸高直径达142厘米,枝干完整,翠叶繁茂,树势苍劲,秀丽喜人.由于树生凤凰山区,多年来它一直被列为全县历史名胜八景之一的“凤凰鲸柏”;因庙为名,又有“大鹏鲸柏世闻稀”的民谚长期流传.据清代编纂的《大邑县志》记载,“凤凰鲸柏在凤凰山.旧有紫柏十围,根盘巨石,号骑鲸柏.”乾隆年间县令朱载为树赋诗云;“紫柏森森不计年,凤凰遥度暮山烟.公馀拾翠春相间,欲向骑鲸上九天”.从记述至今二百多年间,大鹏寺周围林木迭遭破坏,唯独这棵罗汉松保存下来,估计树龄约届千年,是全国迄今所知最粗大的罗汉松,建议列为全省重点保护古树,切实加强管理.
