Programming is not like an extracurricular activity, more like a basic survival skills. Last month at the Mill Valley, Calif., Jordan Laird, a 7-year-old sophomore, and his family attended a crowded extracurricular activity designed to foster a new hobby for students: computer programming. “I am a bit worried that he will fall behind others. ” His mother, Wendy Lyle, said this is why they sign up for this remedial course at Strobel Point Primary School. This national event is part of a nationwide program of computer programming education that is expanding. According to the Code.org website, since December 2013, a total of 20,000 teachers have started programming classes from kindergarten to twelfth grade.
