社会科学研究在美国社会生活中产生了广泛的影响 ,那种认为社会科学对经济、社会发展作用不大的观点已受到有力挑战。在管理体制上 ,美国社会科学研究大致处于“各自为政”的状态 ,但通过基金会等机制 ,也能得到有效管理。美国社会科学研究是由问题驱动的 ,同时还具有实证性、实用性、多样性、重视方法创新等特点。此外 ,虽然社会科学家一般能自由地向社会公开自己的研究成果 ,但研究还是会受到政治和经济利益的干扰。美国社会科学研究的趋势主要表现为社科研究地位日渐提高 ,跨学科研究和全球性问题研究日益增多 ,学术交流与合作不断加强 ,文化研究对社会科学研究的影响增强 ,人文文化与科学文化的分裂与整合继续存在 ,以及现代技术手段得到充分应用 ,社科研究走向网络化等等。
Social science research has had a wide range of effects in the social life of the United States. The view that social science does little to economic and social development has been strongly challenged.
