The U.S. Air Force will conduct a limited test flight of small spacecraft this fall to validate the autonomous landing capability of the future space-based UAV. The 85 percent non-powered aircraft are being manufactured by Boeing North American (BNA) companies for a one-year, $ 5.3 million contract-based technology development and verification project that is being piloted by a newly formed Military Space Shuttle Project Office Management. Several technological developments are also being conducted in parallel, managed by Wright’s and Phillips laboratories at the U.S. Air Force. For example, the small space shuttle also involved BNA’s manufacturing of a medium-temperature cured composite
