Most parts of the Yellow Sea distribute fine-grained clastic sediments, mainly from the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. However, in the southeastern part of the Yellow Sea, mainly coarse-grained sediments, they may come from some short, steep rivers in the Hu-fresh area, and then eastward. The coarse-grained sediments contain a large amount of fine-grained components. Among the fine-grained components near Jinjiang Bay, clastic clay such as kaolinite and chlorite dominated the trend, extending about 120 km north and southwest. In the other parts of the Yellow Sea, it seems to be illiteous. These facts show that most of the fine-grained sediments in the southeastern Yellow Sea come from Jinjiang. Subsequently, a strong coastal stream carried the sediments northwest in summer and south-west in winter. The trend in this handling may also play a role. The close agreement between oceanographic data and mineralogical evidence suggests that the distribution of fine-grained sediments in the southeastern Yellow Sea is mostly under steady-state conditions.
