呼薯5号系呼盟农科所从克二×多子白的自交后代中选育而来,并于1991年通过了内蒙古农作物品种的审定。呼薯5号,株型半直立,淡紫花,属卷叶型。典型黄皮黄肉,薯形稍长椭园,芽眼浅,结薯中等,大中薯占85％,生育期66～70天,一般亩产2000公斤。淀粉含量14.78％,食味好,高度耐贮,是适宜出口和二季作栽培的品种。该品种适时早播,适当加大种植密度,亩保苗4500～5500株,耐水肥,施磷酸二铵可增产20～40％,整薯播种可显著提高种性。
