甘肃省临泽县境内近期发现了具有较高工业价值、储量较大的稀有矿产——含碘凹凸棒土矿,被誉为我国矿产资源宝库的一颗新星。据地质部门初步勘查,临泽县境内的含碘凹凸棒土矿的地质储量达1亿吨,探明储量有50万吨。含碘凹凸棒土矿属于碘与凹凸棒土矿共生的固体矿床,是我国首次发现的新矿产。临泽县境内发现的含碘凹凸棒土矿品位高于日本、智利、美国、俄罗斯已发现的同类矿产的品位,属于罕见的大型富矿床。具有较高的经济价值。
