1965年7月5日,敬爱的周恩来总理视察新疆,亲切接见上海支边青年时说:“你们和各族人民一起建设新疆,很光荣。希望你们做出更大的成绩来!”在场的十一位上海支边青年,怀着对党的深情坚定地表示:“请总理放心,我们绝不辜负党的殷切希望!”周总理逝世整整十周年了。继往开来的青年一代,如何以实际行动担负起开发边疆、建设边疆的重任,回答周总理的谆谆教导呢?为此,记者走访了参加新疆维吾尔自治区三十年大庆的中央代表团成员、共青团中央书记处常务书记刘延东同志。
