In East Asia, there are many sea areas such as the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and the Taiwan Strait. Therefore, since ancient times, mutual exchanges in this area have relied on a large number of ships for their realization. From the 14th century to the early 20th century, sailing boats were very active in the waters of East Asia and have been one of the major media of cargo transportation and cultural exchange. The famous Japanese scholar Song Puzhang’s book, “Cultural Exchanges in the East Asian Seas in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,” precisely took the Chinese sailing as the cut-off point and the cultural activities carried out in East Asia in the perspective of “Sea Asia.” In the early 20th century, a series of cultural exchanges and contacts were studied in depth.
