BACKGROUND: In the past, there were many researches on the bacterial contamination of the waterways of oral integrated treatment stations. However, how the influence of different departments in the oral special hospitals on the high speed turbine waterway of the oral comprehensive treatment units has not been reported yet. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the bacterial contamination of the high-speed turbine waterways in the oral comprehensive treatment units in various departments of the Oral Specialized Hospital in order to provide the basis for the development of personalized infection control measures in various departments. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Cross-sectional survey was conducted to complete the experiment and data collection from 2007-05 / 2008-03. Samples were collected from Guangdong Stomatological Hospital and bacteriological tests were performed at the Microbiology Laboratory, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Southern Medical University. Materials: General nutrition agar, blood plate, biochemical reaction identification system, streptococcal agglutination test kit, Gram stain, etc. were purchased from Guangdong Central Kai microbial reagent company. Methods: 80 stomatological stations of Guangdong Stomatological Hospital were taken from aseptic high-speed turbines and then taken for water sampling. The sampling time was 5 days after every Friday of 2007-05 / 10. Bacteriological tests were performed using conventional microbial isolation and identification techniques. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Bacteria concentration in water sample and the detection rate of three kinds of bacteria including staphylococcus, streptococcus and actinomycetes. Results: The bacterial concentration of 5.15 × 10 ~ 1.59 × 103cfu / mL in water samples from oral cavity treatment units of oral comprehensive treatment units in clinical departments of Stomatology Hospital was 5.67 × 102cfu / mL on average, with the highest bacterial concentration in periodontal disease. The oral and maxillofacial surgery The lowest concentration of bacteria was in water samples, and there was significant difference among different departments (P = 0.000). There was also a significant difference in the detection rates of three bacteria among different departments (P = 0.000). Conclusions: The bacterial contamination of high speed turbine waterways in oral comprehensive treatment units in different departments of oral specialties is different. For those departments with low frequency of use of high speed turbines, it is suggested to include empty step on high speed turbine waterway in routine oral treatment, while for clinical Departments with more serious business exposures should also consider introducing additional infection control measures.
