1 Preface Colin Cherry, a British scientist who raised the issue of cocktail parties in the 1950s, correctly tracks and identifies target sounds in a noisy environment. The core of the cocktail party’s problem is the phenomenon of auditory masking, which means that in the process of sound processing, the disturbing sound interferes with the target sound so that the listener can not well recognize the target sound. Current research divides auditory masking into energy masking and information masking. Energy masking occurs in the peripheral system and the masking and target sounds overlap in the time and frequency domains, resulting in impairment of the characterization of the target signal in the auditory center. Information masking occurred in the central stage, masking sound and target sound have similarities, and the target sound scrambles for central processing resources. With research
