Josephine Ballmer’s book Splicing and Disseminating Short Stories deals with the translation and study of classical poetry, the creation of contemporary poetry, and the relationship between the two. The author expounds systematically the special difficulty of translating western classical poetry, the necessity of translating western classical poetry, how to deal with the relation between creativity and academic in Western classical poetry, and how to promote the translation of western classical poetry into contemporary English poetry problem. Through her own translation and writing practice, Ballmer redefined the boundaries of translation and creation. Her poems not only show the eternal vitality of classical poetry, but also enhance the expression of contemporary poetry. This book has a good reference for us to think about the essence of translation and how to do it for the past.
